Cook's Cottage in Fitzroy Gardens
___________________________________
History crash course:
Located in Fitzroy Garden, Cook’s Cottage,
the original childhood home of
Captain James Cook’s and his parents,
James and Grace Cook has been
a well known Melbourne landmark since 1934.
Operators of the Cottage promote the Cottage
as the home Captain Cook resided in
when he visited friends
and relatives in between his
voyages to the South Seas.
In brief,
the original 18th century cottage
was carefully dismantled
and transported to Melbourne
in 253 cases and 40 barrels in 1934.
